Natural hairstyles proving popular

WHEN attending a wedding, it can be a stressful task to find an outfit and accessories to match but when it comes to hair, the advice is to enjoy pampering yourself and keep it au naturale. Plenty of hairspray may have been the way to go in the past but it seems more women are now looking for a soft, natural look when it comes to attending a wedding.

Fiona Murphy, owner of Monument Hair and Aqua Beauty in Ennis offers some top tips for wedding goers and reveals what hair trends are in this season.
“We would see a mixture of hairstyles for wedding guests, some would still go for an up style but what we’re seeing a lot of is plaits, weaves and pleats. Women are looking for their hair to be styled, rather than a complete change and cut. What we would normally do is a fresh colour and then on the morning of the wedding, we would blow-dry it. Women are also looking for a sleek glossy style, so for that we might do something like a French roll,” Fiona explained.
She added that while there is no specific style or trend that is more popular than others, she believes hair straightening has made way for the soft curl blow-dry. There is also a move away from bold statement colour to more natural looking shades.
Up styles have not gone out of fashion, according to Fiona, but continue to work well with headpieces and are perfect for keeping focus on the dress.
“There is no specific style that works with a headpiece, it depends very much on the piece itself. Sometimes we will have to take the piece off the comb and work it in ourselves. An up style also works great with high neck and low-neck dresses, as it shows off the detail of dress. We would advise that if wearing a hat or headpiece that you bring it with you to the hairdressers so it can be worked into the overall look. Hair can look better left down if you are wearing a hat.
“Colour has also changed and women are looking for a much softer colour for weddings. Going back, we would have seen more definite lights. Now they are looking for a more natural and conditioned look,” she outlined.
Ensuring that your hairstyle stays in place and is easy to manage is always a worry, given that it is a long day that will be captured on camera. Fiona advises that a soft curl blow dry will typically hold for the day without the need for hairspray and keeps hair looking natural. However, if the guest is wearing a hat or headpiece for most of the day, the need for tweaking may become necessary later in the evening when the hat comes off.
“When wearing a headpiece or hat, I would say bring a tail comb and a small can of hairspray with you in your handbag. A headpiece and some hats will flatten hair back down and so it is handy to have a few pins, a comb and some spray to bring it back to life,” she concluded.
