THE Aviva All-Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships were held in Tullamore on Saturday and, once again, Alice Akers (Scariff Community College), with six rounds of throwing in the intermediate girls’ finals, recorded another great victory in the hammer with a throw of 48.22m.
Later on that afternoon, she captured a bronze medal in the discus with a throw of 31.51m.
Deirbhile Ryan (Clonlara and Gael Choláiste Luimnigh), competing in the junior girls, won silver medals in the shot putt with a throw of 10.88m and the high jump with a leap of 1.61m.
Amy O’Donoghue (Meelick and Villiers Schools Limerick) won silver in the senior girls’ 800m with a time of 2.12:9 with Niamh Markham (St Flannan’s) fourth in 2.15:90. In the 1,500m, O’Donoghue won another silver.
