The HSE Community Games National area awards were held on Saturday last in the Shearwater Hotel, Ballinasloe. Clare was represented by their most involved area in the county, Quin-Clooney. They went there hoping to repeat what Sixmilebridge-Kilmurry achieved last year and maybe go one further and win the national title.
The award for the most involved area in the county was presented to Quin-Clooney Secretary Jacinta McEvoy and Susan Taylor committee member by Michael Bourke Deputy President. When it came to the provencial awards Quin-Clooney were delighted to be named as winners. Jacinta McEvoy and Tom Loughnane received the award from Jude Feehan, national general secretary.
When the national awards were announced, Quin-Clooney were thrilled to be named as winners of this very prestigious and much sought after award. They received a perpetual Cup, Galway Crystal and a cheque for €350.
The presentation was made by Jerry Davenport national president, Carmel Grealy general vice-president and Senator Michael Mullins to the eight representatives from Quin-Clooney who attended the function. All these awards were dedicated to the hard work by the parents, schools, volunteers and committee who coach teams and individuals in the many events in Community Games.
The adult and youth volunteer awards were also presented on Saturday. Flan Brennan of Ennis St John’s received the award for County Clare. He was presented with his award by Senator Michael Mullins. Flan was selected for the award for his hard work and dedication to Community Games both at area, county, Munster and national level over a long number of years. Flan coordinates the soccer and Futsal every year in the county.
The Youth Volunteer Awards were also presented. Gemma McEvoy from Quin-Clooney received the award for Clare. Gemma was selected for this award for the time and commitment in volunteering at area, county and national events. Gemma is a very dedicated members of the Clare Youth committee.
National president Gerry Davenport congratulated all the winners. He said, “Community Games would not exist without the efforts and dedication of those who volunteer so freely with their time every year. I commend each and every one of you for your unrelenting determination in keeping the spirit of the Community Games alive.”
