National award for Carrigoran nursing home

A CLARE nursing home has scooped a major prize at the Nursing Homes Ireland Care Awards 2012, in association with Homecare Medical Supplies.

Frances Neilan of Carrigoran House Nursing Home, Newmarket-on-Fergus, accepted the award in the Nursing Homes Ireland Community Initiative category.

Carrigoran House was one of three Clare finalists to go forward to the prestigious national awards ceremony recently. Jackie Flynn, Lakes Nursing Home and Carmel O’Flaherty, Kilrush Nursing Home, represented Clare in the NHI Care Awards 2012 Social and Recreational Award category.

On receiving the award, Ms Neilan said, “On behalf of all at Carrigoran House, I wish to express our deep gratitude to NHI and the judging panel for recognising the significant contribution Carrigoran House has made to the community of Newmarket-on-Fergus and surrounding communities over the past 38 years.

“Carrigoran House has a long tradition of working with the local community and responding to the needs of local groups requiring space and access for their group activities. Carrigoran House will continue this flourishing relationship into the future and this award is gratefully appreciated.”

Tadhg Daly, Nursing Homes Ireland CEO paid tribute to Ms Neilan. “Nursing homes don’t exist in isolation but instead are a part of local communities. This award is established to celebrate the contribution that nursing homes make to the local community. Nursing homes from across Ireland were nominated for the award so the achievement of all at Carrigoran House is one to be immensely proud of. Nursing homes will continue to grow and develop with their local communities and Carrigoran House is leading the way in integrating with their local community.”

Mr Daly also said, “The standard of entry to this year’s awards ceremony was extremely high and over 300 nominations were received for the awards from communities across Ireland. To reach the final is a magnificent achievement and Jackie, Carmel, Frances and all within their nursing homes and their extended communities should be very proud of their achievements.”

Nursing Homes Ireland represents the private and voluntary nursing home sector and nominees were sought for the nine award categories from its more than 360 member nursing homes. The more than 300 nominations were submitted by nursing home residents, visitors to homes, staff and members of the general public.
