Nash notches up 2-9 for Scariff-Ogonnelloe

SCARIFF-Ogonnelloe became the first team to get over the opening hurdle in this season’s U-21 Hurling C Championship when they accounted for Tubber in the C title race at O’Garney Park in Sixmilebridge on Friday night.

 

A brace of goals from corner-forward Barry Nash helped them to a six-point interval lead, when the score stood at 2-8 to 1-5.

Scariff man Nash was the game’s top scorer, hitting 2-9 on an evening when others to impress were John Scanlan, Cian Bradley and Peter English.
Evan O’Donoghue was Tubber’s goalscorer and he also added a brace of points, while the North Clare side’s remaining points came from Lorcan O’Grady and Ronan Taaffe. Tubber’s chances weren’t helped by the loss of Dara Monaghan, who broke a bone in his ankle during the first half.

Parteen 4-11
St Joseph’s 2-4

NOEL Bridgeman was the top scorer as Parteen overcame the challenge of St Joseph’s at Ogonnelloe on Sunday morning.
He scored all of his side’s goals and added a point as well in a tie that saw the winners lead at half-time on a score of 3-4 to 1-3, with Seamus Nugent getting St Joseph’s first-half goal.
Eoin Hanrahan had their second goal from a 20m free but, overall, Parteen were the stronger side and deserved their victory, which puts them through to a meeting with Whitegate in the semi-final.

Ballyea 0-9

MEELICK booked a quarter-final date with newcomers St Senan’s, Kilkee this Saturday when they accounted for Ballyea at Kilkishen last Sunday.
Oisín Hickey was the winners’ star player, hitting 1-6 of their tally on a day when they led 1-5 to 0-6 at the break.
Ballyea, fielding a second team at this level for the first time, missed a number of chances but the experience gained by what was almost all of their minor team is sure to stand to them as the season progresses.
