Narrow first-round victory for Feakle

Feakle  2-8

Kilmaley  2-6

FEAKLE and Kilmaley met in the first round of this minor championship, with Feakle emerging victorious. With only two points between the teams on that occasion, another close affair was expected. Neither team disappointed and the outcome of this game was in doubt until the final whistle.

It took seven minutes before the first score was registered, a point for Kilmaley. Feakle followed quickly when Aoife Dillon popped over a point from play. Kilmaley added three points before Feakle struck for goal. A free from Aoife Dillon landed on the edge of the square and was finished to the net by Samantha O’Connor.
Kilmaley finished this half the stronger, adding 1-1 to their first-half tally, while Feakle registered a point from a free by Vera Loughnane. When Kilmaley rattled the net from the throw-in to put six points between the teams, it was difficult to see a comeback from Feakle.
However, this was to be the only time Kilmaley would threaten Feakle in this half with Feakle dominating the remainder of the tie. Feakle picked off five points, one from Aoife Dillon and four from Vera Loughnane to leave just one point between the teams. Loughnane’s move to centre-field saw her come more into the game and this, combined with the great performance from Mary Kate Moloney, ensured they piled on the pressure. Feakle’s breakthrough came when Áine Ryan’s one-handed shot gave the Kilmaley goalie no chance. Feakle were now two points ahead and they never relinquished this lead. Kilmaley did threaten the Feakle goal in the last few minutes but superb defending from Collette Purcell, Karen Ryan and Siobhán Tuohy killed off any Kilmaley attack.

Truagh-Clonlara’s title

IN an evenly contested Minor C final, this game proved to be a tough, physical battle for both teams. Truagh opened the scoring in the first half with a point from Michelle Powell, who also went on to score a goal a few minutes later after taking a pass from Aideen Hogg.
Both teams defended very well and scores were hard to come by in the opening half. Truagh again led the way in the second half by scoring 1-3, while the back line defended extremely well against a strong Wolfe Tones forward line who were denied by Truagh-Clonlara’s goalie Sinéad Hogg as they tried for scores.

Scariff-Ogonnelloe on top

SCARIFF-Ogonnelloe proved much too strong for Tulla-Bodyke in this U-18C shield final. The first half was quite close with Scariff-Ogonnelloe getting the better of the exchanges.
