Murrihy goal the difference for St Breckan’s

Football Leagues Round-up

DIVISION 3

St Breckan’s 1-7
Kilmurry Ibrickane 0-7

St Breckan’s will be playing Garry Cup Division 2 football next year following their Division 3 semi-final win over Kilmurry Ibrickane last weekend.
Ironically the decisive goal was scored by Quilty native Eric Murrihy, who netted for St Breckan’s in the sixth minute. That score was the opening score of the game.
St Breckan’s led 1-6 to 0-2 at half-time with Pat Nagle (three frees), Conor Cormican, Dinny O’Driscoll and Murrihy completing their six-point scoring tally in the first half.
Seamus Lynch and Odran O’Dwyer scored first-half frees for Kilmurry. Five minutes into the second half a Pat Nagle free put St Breckan’s 1-7 to 0-2 up. That, however, was the intermediate champions last score.
Lynch and O’Dwyer put over two frees apiece, while Thomas Lernihan also pointed for Kilmurry.

A strong first-half showing when they played with the aid of the breeze laid the foundations for Coolmeen’s victory over Doonbeg, home club of the Coolmeen coach Tommy Tubridy. Weather conditions were particularly difficult on the day.
The winners went to the break leading on a 0-9 to 0-0 scoreline and while Doonbeg battled back strongly in the second half, they found it difficult to break down a strong Coolmeen defence.
