MUNSTER Rugby is teaming up with a Clare special needs charity in a joint effort to raise funds for local children with a variety of disabilities.

Clare Crusaders Children’s Clinic has been selected by Munster Rugby as their Charity of the Year for the 2012/2013 season.

The clinic will benefit from a range of supports from Munster Rugby, which will include joint fundraising initiatives and player appearances throughout the year. In excess of 200 children with special needs from Clare are provided with a range of therapies at the Barefield clinic at no charge each year.

Garrett Fitzgerald, CEO, Munster Rugby said when they were going through their selection process this season for their three nominated charities, they were very impressed by the service the Clare Crusaders Clinic provides to families free of charge.

“Munster Rugby is delighted to partner with Clare Crusaders this season and very much look forward to supporting them through the involvement of our players and association with the Munster Rugby brand,” he said.

Manager of the clinic Ann Norton said the joint approach has provided a huge boost to the children who attend the clinic not to mention their families, staff and all those involved in supporting their work.

“It is a huge honour to become associated with one of the world’s best-known sports brands and also an organisation and team that reflects everything we strive to achieve regardless of the challenge.

Clare Crusaders are currently working on a number of joint fundraising opportunities with Munster Rugby, which will help raise the profile of the clinic as well as generating much-needed financial support.

“Munster Rugby has contributed to our recently published cookbook and will be providing support in the promotion and selling of the book through their large supporters’ club fan base,” she said.

The clinic is also looking forward to the Munster versus Ulster ‘Charities Match’ on December 29, where a proportion of programme sales will be donated to the charity.
