Munster award for Hickey

THE AIB Munster GAA Football Award was as tightly contested as ever, with Kilmurry defender Darren Hickey this week named as the Munster Club Championship player of the campaign.
Kilmurry Ibrickane’s Darren Hickey has been named as the Munster Club Championship player of the campaign. He beat off stiff opposition from a number of his clubmates to win the prestigious honour, which will be presented at a function at the RDS in Dublin on Tuesday, February 9.
By then, Darren will hopefully be preparing for an All-Ireland semi-final date with Portlaoise, should they beat Tir Chonaill Gaels in the quarter-final in Ruislip.
This is the 14th year of the AIB provincial player awards, with seven winners selected by GAA media around the country.
The other winners are Paul Cahillane (Portlaoise), Conor McGourty (St Gall’s) and Kieran Comer (Corofin, Galway). The hurling awards will go to Ben O’Connor (Newtownshandrum), Paddy Richmond (Dunloy), who was also honoured in 2007, and TJ Reid (Ballyhale Shamrocks), who is being honoured for the second year in succession.
