Bridge United 1 Avenue United 1
(Bridge United won 4-1 on penalties)
BRIDGE United A booked a place in the fourth round of the FAI Junior Cup when they proved too strong for Avenue United A at Lisdoonvarna on Sunday.
In doing so they maintained their good form in cup competition. Last year they went the furthest of the Clare clubs in this competition. They are also still in the race for Munster Junior Cup honours.
The hero of the day for the winners was their goalie John Mulready, who made two particularly outstanding saves in the penalty shoot-out to help dump a fancied Avenue United outfit out of the competition.
After a scoreless first half, Avenue took the lead with 10 minutes gone when Scott Hennessy scored.
Five minutes later, Bridge United levelled when Mike McNamara found the net and this resulted in the game going to extra time.
Bridge United had marginally the best of the first-half exchanges and were unlucky not to score. Avenue did better in the second half and also had a slight upperhand in the extra-time period but failed to break down the strong Bridge United defence.
The scorers for the winners from the penalty spot were Tom White, Darragh Fitzgerald, Mike McNamara and Kieran Quinlan. Alex Zmusko scored from the spot for Avenue, while Scott Hennessy and Dave McCarthy’s efforts were saved.
Bridge United A: John Mulready; Jonathon Downes, Darren Murphy, Christopher Griffin, Jason White, Eric Carr, Tom White, Darragh Fitzgerald, Trevor Maxwell, Mike McNamara, Kieran Quinlan.

St Brendan’s Park 1 Ennis Town Rock 0
AFTER a great win in Tralee two weeks ago in Round 3, Ennis Town Rock failed to repeat that result when they took on St Brendan’s Park from the same Kerry town in Round 4 of the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday.
The game’s only goal came in the second minute when the visitors were still settling into the contest. From here on, the Ennis side had the better of matters but just could not break down a well organised St Brendan’s Park defence.
The Kerry side’s goalkeeper made an excellent save from David Reidy, while Francis Daniels also came close but it wasn’t their day. St Brendan’s Park held firm to progress to the next stage of the competition.
Ennis Town Rock: Sean Kennedy; Adrian Walsh, Ronan Judge, Jacko White, Shane Daniels, Ethan Considine, Dean Gardiner, Francis Daniels, Joe Collins, Eoin Glynn David Reidy.
Subs: Gary Collins, Daryl Eade and Niall McNevin.
