Minor B title for Ballyea

Ballyea 2-10   Kilkishen 2-1

BALLYEA claimed the minor B title in Éire Óg on Bank Holiday Monday with a 2-10 to 2-1 win over Kilkishen. Ballyea were on the attack from the throw-in and could have had the opening point inside 30 seconds but they were penalised for over carrying.
Edel Hehir got Ballyea on the scoreboard two minutes later when she converted a free. Ballyea could have added a couple of more points but were guilty of some erratic shooting. Ballyea’s second point came when Suzy O’Shea sent a long-range free into the square, which was collected by Rebecca Culligan and sent over the bar.
Kilkishen’s opening score came from Kate O’Gorman who converted a free in the 13th minute. Ballyea added another point when O’Shea again picked out Culligan on the wing and she found the target.
Jane Flanagan sent the ball down the wing to Culligan who gathered and broke through to handpass to the net. Louise Griffin added another point for Ballyea to leave the half-time score at 1-4 to 0-1 in Ballyea’s favour.
Ballyea continued their dominance from the restart and added two more points from Hehir and Flanagan before Griffin sent a shot goal-bound. Pauline McNamara blocked the shot but a poor clearance saw Griffin get to the rebound and score her side’s second goal. Kilkishen fought hard throughout and were rewarded with a goal midway through the second half when Catherine Dolan went on a run down the wing and sent a short pass to Deirdre Minogue who sent a low shot past Áine O’Shea.
Edel Hehir added two points for Ballyea before Minogue again struck for Kilkishen’s second goal, leaving seven points between the sides with four minutes remaining. Ballyea kept on the pressure for the remaining time and added another couple of points to claim the cup.
