Meeting time for Clare Community Games areas

AS a very successful season draws to a close for Community Games, areas across the county are presently busy preparing for 2012. A number have held their annual meetings in the past week while more are scheduled for the coming week.
Tulla: The Tulla area AGM will take place in the Courthouse this Friday. It marks the 40th anniversary of the Tulla group, which has issued an appeal for more volunteers to help with the running of the many events that are part of the Community Games calendar.
Sixmilebridge-Kilmurry: The annual general meeting of the Sixmilebridge-Kilmurry area took place last Thursday in the Courthouse. The attendance was disappointing but, nevertheless, it was a successful meeting, chaired by Rob Stephen in the absence of chairman Fiach McHugh, who has moved to Dublin due to work commitments.
Secretary Margaret O’Halloran outlined the successes achieved by local competitors during the past year, while there was special mention for chairman Fiach McHugh for his work and commitment since coming to Sixmilebridge.
The following officers were elected: President, Mary Fitzgerald; chairman, Rob Stephen; vice chairperson, Ann Murphy; secretary, Margaret O’Halloran; assistant secretary, Mary Kerin; treasurer, Kieran Keating; assistant treasurer,  Margaret Scanlon; PRO, Mary Phelan; youth officer, Sean Stack; delegates to county, Margaret O’Halloran, Denise Brooks, Mary Kerin, Rob Stephen; appeals committee, Mary Fitzgerald, Rob Stephen, Graham Meakins, Ann Murphy and Ann Chaplin.
Clare AGM: November 8 is the date for the county annual meeting, which will be held at the West County Hotel. Nominations close this Friday, which is also the last date for receipt of motions for that meeting.

All-Star Awards

THE annual county all-star awards will be held on Friday, October 21 at the West County Hotel, when 75 children will receive awards. Tickets for the function are available from county treasurer Rose Meakins at 061 369924.

Keep Clare Clean

The Keep Clare Clean awareness project continues this year. It is promoted by the county committee in co-operation with Clare County Council and SFADCo.
The aim is to encourage young people to use their creativity and imagination to highlight the importance of keeping the community and county clean and free from all typos of litter.
Categories are U-6, U-8, U-10, U-12 and U-14, while there is also a special category. The competition can take the format of a poster or a poem. The closing date is Friday, November 11 and entries should be sent to Cecilia O’Sullivan, Kevin Barry Avenue, Ennis. The exhibition and presentation of prizes is on Friday, December 12.

Youth and adult awards

THE HSE Community Games national awards were set up in 1993 to acknowledge the tremendous work of Community Games volunteers. Each area is invited to nominate one volunteer for the youth and adult award. One in each category will be selected to represent Clare at the national awards in Ballinasloe on Saturday, November 19.
