Mayor’s award for Jimmy Rocks

MAYOR of Shannon Mary Brennan is about to complete her term of office and this week she said the 2012 Mayor’s Ball had been a success.

“It was very much a community event and with the help of many local businesses who donated spot prizes and it was a very enjoyable night. The mayor’s award was given to Jimmy Rocks in recognition of his contribution to the community in both business and sport. He was a big part of the town centre for many years and was one of the founders of Newtown Soccer Club in 1977. He has suffered ill health in recent times, which caused him to retire early but it was great to see him looking well and able to share and enjoy the night with friends and family. I was delighted to see him there and wish him every good health for the future.”
She said she was grateful to everyone who supported the event, while the final figure raised still has to be calculated.
