Masters final teeing off at Woodstock

THE masters competition involving the top 25 in the golfer of the year competition will take place this weekend at Woodstock.

In the club singles at Woodstock at the weekend, the winner was John McGrath (11) with 45 points from Tony Neville (12) with 43 points and Tom Malone (18), also with 43 points.

The weekly seniors competition was a modified team-of-three scramble over 16 holes and the winners were Donal Kenny, Michael Cullinan and Ollie McNamara.

Ennis

ENNIS Seniors Group held a team-of-three competition last week and the winners on 49 points were Michael Kenny, Luke Coote and Maurice Walshe. In second place on 48 were Ferdie O’Donoghue, Dick Burke and Larry O’Farrelly, followed by Frank Sheedy, Sean Fitzpatrick and Michael Dempsey; Tony Coote, Brian Higgins and Michael Culliney and Tom Woulfe, Eamon Murphy and Sean O’Gorman, all on 48 and Jim Scully, Joe McMahon and Michael Butler on 47.

The winners of the turkey fourball at the weekend were Frank Sheedy and Michael Kenny with 47 points from John McNamara and John Ryan; John Guilfoyle and Johnny Cullinan; Luke and Victor Coote and Stevie Kenny and Adrian Rushe, all with 46.

In the Friday open singles competition, the winner was David Considine with 43 points from Victor Coote on 38. Noel Whelan won the gross with 28 points, while the winner of the ladies’ competition was Ann Gallery with 31 points.

Spanish Point

THIS year, the annual general meeting of the Spanish Point Golf Club Men’s section takes place on Friday, November 2 at 8pm and the ladies’ club will hold their AGM on Sunday, November 4 at 3.30pm. Both meetings will be held in the clubhouse.

Eamonn Murphy continued his good form and in the Senior Open held on Tuesday last, playing off 10 handicap, he finished first with a score of 38 points. The competition last weekend for men was a team of 3/4 scramble and was won by Eoghan O’Loughlin (3), Brendan Coyne (15), Bernie O’Halloran (19) and Brendan Sexton (15). Turkey competitions continue this weekend with a singles and the timesheet is in the clubhouse.

Gort

THE men’s competition at the weekend in Gort was an 18-hole singles Stableford and the winner was Jack Beakey (20) with 43 points from James Mulqueen (14) with a similar score. Tony Curran (12) was third with 41 points, followed by Tommy Madden (11) with 39 points. The gross was won by Enda Cradock (1) with 35 points.

The Monday open 18-hole singles Stableford was won by John Greer (6) with 35 points.
This weekend, there will be an 18-hole singles Stableford for men, while the weekly Monday open will continue.

In the ladies’ section, last week’s winner was Ruth Naughton (20) with 40 points from Phil Mulkerrins (26) with 35 points.

East Clare

THE men’s singles at East Clare at the weekend was won by Kieran Kennedy (15) with 45 points from Andrew Moloney (17) with 42 points.

In the ladies’ nine-hole singles, the winner was Georgina Wright from Mary Brennan and Brigid Minogue.
Ger Hogan and Annette Rowan defeated Peg Hanrahan and Dave Condren in the final of the mixed match-play. The match was decided on the 18th.

This weekend, the men have an 18-hole singles competition, while the ladies will continue with their Eclectic Part 2.

The captain’s dinner dance takes place on November 3 at the clubhouse. Tickets are available from 061 921322 or 061 640044.

The club fundraiser takes place over the October Bank Holiday weekend and it is a team-of-three event.

Lahinch

KEVIN Glynn (10) was the winner of the men’s singles Stableford competition on the Castle Course on Saturday with a score of 43 points. He had two to spare over Myles Gallivan (15), with third spot filled by Jimmy Doyle (12) on 40 points.

In the ladies’ hampers competition on the championship course, Maire Hanrahan (22) won with 41 points from Mary Daly (14) with 39 points.

The men’s turkey four-ball competition on the old course on Sunday was won by Bernard Whelan (8) and Paul
O’Brien (5) with 41 points. In second place with a similar score were Kevin Glynn (9) and Frank Keane (9) and they were followed by Thomas Neenan (0) and Peter Hennessy (4) with 40 points.

In the ladies’ hampers competition, the winner was Margaret Cooney (27) with 41 points from Geri Baggott (28) with 36 points.

Portumna

IN a men’s singles competition at Portumna at the weekend the winner was Tiernan McKeogh (19) with 45 points from Kevin Dunne (23) with a similar score and Mike Keyes (11) with 43 points.

The gross was won by JP McLoughlin (scr) with 39 points, while the seniors section was won by PJ Hogan (25) with 36 points.

The winners of the open three-ball for September were Matt O’Gara (25), Matthew O’Gara (15) and Michael Corcoran (17), all from Nenagh with 48 points. The three-ball continues each month until April 2013.
In the Wednesday seniors, the winner was Pete Gibbs (13) with 33 points from Francis McClearn (13) with 32 and John Hynes (17) with 31 points.

In the Monday open, the winner was John Cleary (5) with 41 points from John Hassett, Templemore (19) with 37 points and Gerard Flynn, Gort (23) with 36 points. The gross was won by JP McLoughlin (scr) with 31 points.

Kilrush

AGNES Shannon won the ladies’ singles on October 4 at Kilrush with 29 points, while last week’s winner was Margaret Donnelly with 25 points from Margaret Clune, who had a similar score.

In last week’s men’s seniors outing, the winners were Denis F Nagle, Noel Enright and Brendan McNamara from Barry Taylor, David Eastham and Tom Prendeville, with third spot filled by Jimmy McSwiggan, Matt Fitzpatrick, Peter W Glynn and Maurice Roche.

The Winter League continues this week and will run until Saturday, November 10.

Clare Teachers

THE Clare Teachers Society held an outing to Portumna last week when the winner was Michael Kilmartin with 34 points from Áine Burke on 33 and John O’Connor on a similar score.

Donal Vaughan and Alan Dunne were the winners of the nines with 19 and 17 points respectively, while the category winners were John Doyle with 31, Michael Kelly with 30 and Kathleen Frehill with 27.

The society’s next outing will be on November 17 to Gort.

Sixmilebridge

THE Sixmilebridge society held an outing to Castletroy on Saturday last when the winner was Willie Feely from John Nihill, with Shane Chaplin in third spot.

The nines were won by Ed Crowe and Aidan Whelan, while the category prizes were won by Mervyn Fraiser, Noel Flannery and Shane Chaplin.

Aidan Whelan has won the golfer of the year award.
