Clare football received a timely boost this week when Micheál McDermott was named as the Phillips manager of the month for December.
Manager of county football champions Kilmurry-Ibrickane, who added the Munster title to their winnings in early December, McDermott is also the Clare senior manager and will lead the county side into their first competitive game of the season on Sunday, when they entertain UCC in the opening round of the McGrath Cup at Cooraclare.
A week later, he will lead the county champions to Ruislip for an All-Ireland quarter-final with Tir Connail Gaels.
The Cavan native, who is a bank manager in Limerick, was presented with his award at a function in Limerick on Wednesday of this week.
