Management positions to be filled in Miltown


THE annual general meeting of St Joseph’s Miltown Malbay GAA Club at the clubhouse last week attracted a moderate-sized attendance.
Chairperson Gerard McMahon outlined a summary of events in 2011. Detailed reports were presented by treasurer Tommy Byrne, secretary Francis Cahill and stand committee chairperson John Reidy.
Tommy Byrne stepped down as treasurer after three years in the role and it is hoped to fill the position from within the executive in early 2012. John Reidy presented the financial report on the stand committee and signalled that the project is complete.
The senior and junior management positions remain to be filled for 2012, with managers appointed for the majority of underage teams.
The officers for 2012 are: president, Canon Seamus Mullin; vice-presidents, Aidan Carroll and Marty Marrinan; trustees, Noel Walsh, John Reidy and Marty Marrinan; chairperson, Gerard McMahon; vice-chairperson, Paddy Egan; treasurer, to be filled; assistant treasurer, Willie Healy; secretary, Francis Cahill; assistant secretary, Tomás McKenna; county board delegate/Irish officer, Noel Walsh; field manager, Micko O’Loughlin; remaining committee members, Jonathan Wilson, Cathal O’Loughlin, Tommy Byrne and Maurice Reidy.

Bodyke

THE AGM of Bodyke GAA Club was held recently at which 2011 was reviewed and plans for 2012 put in place.
Outgoing treasurer Diarmaid Walsh did not seek re-election due to work commitments and tributes were paid to him for his hard work over the past four years. Jim Hickey was appointed to the position.
In terms of underage hurling, the year was viewed as being particularly successful and enjoyable.
The running of the fourth annual minor hurling tournament in memory of the late Stephen McGuire and also an inaugural seven-a-side tournament in memory of the late Ned Doyle were highlighted as major successes.
The club’s success in winning the U-16C Shield and the Clooney/Quin-sponsored U-13 Division 3 title was highlighted and the squads and coaches were praised for their achievements.
The following officers were elected for 2012: presidents, Fr J Minogue and Michael Walsh; vice-president, Peadar Daly; chairman, Kevin O’Brien; vice-chairman, Sean McNamara; secretary, Sean O’Halloran; treasurer, John Hickey; assistant treasurer, Marie Kelleher; PRO, to be confirmed; Irish officer, Marian Quigley; coaching officer, Sean Doyle; children’s officer, John Slattery; membership officer, Shane Walsh; ASAP officer, Betty O’Halloran.

Ruan

At a well-attended annual meeting of Ruan GAA, at which all the main officers were returned without opposition, it was decided to press ahead with a merger with Corofin at underage level due to dwindling numbers in both parishes.
Chairman Frankie Lyons thanked all who helped at adult and underage levels during the year under review. He said the adult team management will return for the coming season when they will again strive to win the intermediate championship.
Secretary Mark Casey praised the underage club for their work, pointing out that they competed in a number of finals and received a club of the year award at the recent Bord na nÓg convention.
Treasurer John O’Sullivan reported a healthy balance and signalled that insurance premiums are to drop in 2012.
Former county hurler Mickey Leahy was selected as an honorary joint president of the club. The following were elected: joint presidents, Jimmy Smyth, Michael Considine, Mickey Leahy; vice-president, Fr Pat O’Neill PP; chairman, Frankie Lyons; vice-chairman, Tom Roughan; secretary, Mark Casey; insurance officer/assistant secretary, Eimear O’Halloran; treasurer, John O’Sullivan; assistant treasurer, Vincent O’Halloran; lotto auditor, Kevin O’Regan; PRO, Ger Lyons; assistant PRO, Gearóid Roughan; registrars, Niall O’Connor, Pat Keegan; county board delegate, Michael O’Regan; child protection officer, Donal Ó h-Ainefein; ASAP officer, Francis O’Halloran; Irish officer (to be filled); team manager, Pat Meaney.

Kilbeacanty

The AGM of Kilbeacanty Hurling Club took place in McCarthy’s, before a large attendance. Chairman Pat Lynch thanked all the people for their help throughout the year, especially his fellow officers, the members of the club executive committee and team managers.
He said it was a very difficult year for the club, both on and off the pitch, and that in order to improve matters on the pitch a management development committee was set up in September to put a plan in place for 2012.
He thanked the management development committee of Alan O’Grady, Tom Broderick and Gerry Finnerty for their work over the last few months and wished the new intermediate manager, Niall Gillane and coach Gavin Keary, along with their selectors, the best of luck for 2012. He concluded by offering congratulations to club player Niall Donoghue for winning an All-Ireland U-21 medal.
Treasurer Fraser Donaldson gave a detailed account of the club’s finances, with the highlight being the success of the recent monster fundraising auction.
Secretary Justin Fahey gave a brief report on the club’s activities throughout the year before going on to pay tribute to the late Florrie McCarthy, who was one of the greatest servants to the club. Florrie served the club in all capacities at officer level as chairman, secretary and county board delegate and was a member of the club committee right up to his death. He stated his loss “is incalculable and his passing leaves a void that will not be easily filled”.
Alan O’Grady, secretary of the juvenile club Michael Cusack’s, gave a report on all underage teams, with the highlight of the year being the club competing in the Féile 2011 and getting to the Joe Gillane juvenile final.
The meeting finished with a minute’s silence for all deceased members of the club and the parish.
The following officers were elected for 2012: presidents, Fr Paddy Callinan, Sen Mannion and David Curley; chairman, Pat Lynch; vice-chairman: Niall Gillane; secretary, Justin Fahey; assistant secretary, Mike Coen; treasurer, Fraser Donaldson; assistant treasurer and club delegate, Tom Broderick.

O’Callaghan’s Mills

O’Callaghan’s Mills GAA Club held its annual general meeting recently before a large attendance of members. Outgoing secretary Neil O’Brien presented his report for the year before stepping down from his position, which he held for the past three years. The meeting failed to elect a successor and a membership officer for 2012 and these positions are to be filled at a reconvened AGM, to be held in early January.
Treasurer Joe Meaney’s report for the year showed that the club’s biggest fundraisers were the annual golf classic and the local parish lotto.
In the secretary’s report, Neil O’Brien paid tribute to all teams, management and the club’s members for their work during the year, which included the construction of both stands.
Senior manager Peter Carmody announced he was not standing for the position in the year ahead.
Tributes were paid to his work as manager over the past three seasons. Junior A manager Sean McNamara also stepped down and a committee was put in place comprising Michael O’Brien, Adrian Flaherty, Paddy Donnellan, Peter Carmody, Joe Cooney and Brian Donnellan to find managers for the vacant positions, who will be ratified at the reconvened AGM.
The club also passed a motion to install a gym, which is to be in place by the start of the year for training of teams and also for use for club members.
Chairman Michael O’Brien remained on as chairman for 2012 and paid tribute to all involved. The following were elected for 2012: presidents, JP Guinane and John Fitzgerald; patron, Fr D O’Dwyer; chairman, Michael O’Brien; vice-chairman, Joe O’Gorman; assistant secretary, Michael Jones; treasurer Joe Meaney; assistant treasurer, Ollie O’Driscoll; PRO and registrar, Neil O’Brien; Irish officer, Sean McNamara; county board delegate, Noel O’Driscoll; players’ rep, Adrain Flaherty; coaching officer, Tommy McMahon; committee members, James O’Halloran, Pat O’Brien, Matt Donovan, Niall Donovan, Joe Cooney and John Cooney; U-21 manager, Joe Cooney; minor, Tommy McMahon, Danny Duggan and one more to be nominated; football, Declan Nugent.
The club will hold its annual Christmas dance on St Stephen’s night in the Mills Tavern, with music by Pat O’Neill.
