Photograph by John KellyDerek, who works for Estée Lauder, is a sought after make-up artist often requested for many video shoots as well as TV segments, such as Dallas. He is known for his talent in bringing out the unique beauty of his clients’ features, especially by enhancing what they have.

“Is there not always a little bit of magic around beauty? Make-up can change our look, hold back the years and enhance every woman,” said Aineis Brock, director of fundraising at Carrigoran House and one of the event organisers.

“Ladies-only gala events have been very popular over the past number of years. It is a nice opportunity for the girls to meet up before being caught up in the Christmas rush. Estée Lauder has a terrific loyal following and always has lovely products available for the party season. We are planning to have a great sociable evening with lots of tips and a little magic and, of course, good food and wine,” she added.

The gala ladies evening of Beauty and Magic is taking place at Dromoland Castle on Thursday, December 6. The evening will start at 7.30pm with a drinks reception and Christmas jazz by Siomha Brock. This will be followed by a five-course dinner in the Brian Boru Ballroom. Derek will make a presentation during the evening giving his advice and demonstrating his extraordinary make-up techniques.

“As a local, family-owned business we always love to support local events in County Clare,” said Audrey Kinahan of Rochford’s Pharmacy, who are Estée Lauder agents for the county and are supporting the event.

“It says a lot about how much Estée Lauder value our County Clare customers and our expert Estée Lauder staff that they are sending someone as high profile as Derek Miller from New York for the event,” said Audrey.

All the proceeds from the evening will go to Carrigoran House and tickets can be booked from there at 061 368100.

“At Carrigoran we provide a range of services for the seniors of this region across the continuum of care. This includes independent living, supported living, Alzheimer and dementia services, as well as convalescence. We are just completing a purpose-built Wellness Centre, which will support individual seniors to live independent lives and thrive in their own home for as long as possible. Our fundraising efforts support this work and development,” explained Ms Brock.
