MACALLA na hÉireann, the 2012 Comhaltas Concert tour of Ireland will perform in Cois na hAbhna on October 22 at 8.30pm.
This annual tour features the best of traditional talent drawn from the four provinces and they will perform at 14 venues from October 14 to 27. Each year, the tour assembles a fine mix of established artists together with younger stars. These are blended together into a fast-moving and colourful show that will appeal to both the connoisseur and peripheral fans of Irish traditional entertainment – a show that reflects the breadth and depth of music, song and dance.
This year’s line-up follows Alice Fitzgerald, a singer and MC from Waterford; Shane Keating of Cork on the uillean pipes; Emer Toale of Dublin on harp and piano; Lorraine McMahon from Louth on fiddle and whistle; Joseph Keane of Laois on button/accordion; Elaine Reilly from Longford on banjo; Róisín Broderick from Galway on concertina/fiddle; Clare Heffernan from Limerick on whistle/flute; Aisling Vaughan from Cork, dancer/concertina; Christina Mulcahy of Limerick, dancer/concertina; Tomás Ó Sé and Seán Hanafin who are both dancers from Kerry.
When the group takes to the stage in Cois na hAbhna there will be a special welcome for Róisín Broderick who is well known in Clare having been a student of the late, great concertina player Tom Carey of Kilmihil.
