Lyons impresses as Ruan make winning start in Intermediate

Ruan             1-9 
Bodyke          1-6

A strong finish saw Ruan, last year’s beaten finalists, get their intermediate championship campaign off to a good start when they overcame the challenge of Bodyke at Clooney on Saturday evening.
The sides were level with ten minutes remaining but Ruan proved the stronger side in the closing stages.
Helped by a goal from Ian Molloy, the East Clare side enjoyed a slight upperhand in the first half on a day when both sides were guilty of bad misses, especially from placed balls.  It was 1-3 to 0-3 in Bodyke’s favour at half time.
Brendan Lyons was the winner’s top scorer, contributing 1-2 from play. His pace caused huge problems for Bodyke.
With the teams on level terms inside the final quarter, a share of the spoils looked a possibility but Ruan put in a strong finish and fired over three points for victory.

Parteen          2-12 
Sixmilebridge          1-12

Parteen got their campaign off to a winning start when they accounted for Sixmilebridge at Shannon on Sunday.
Behind by five points at half-time after playing against the breeze, the South East Clare side turned in a strong second half performance.
They started the second half brightly and were level within ten minutes before they edged in front.
Helped by a Mark Culbert goal, the ’Bridge were 1-8 to 1-3 ahead at half time when the Parteen goal coming from Darragh Yelverton, a great solo effort.
On the turnover, Parteen piled on the pressure and they were level after ten minutes helped by their second goal that came from full forward Ivan Conway.
From here they drove on to victory. County minor Martin Moroney made his intermediate championship debut at midfield from where he contributed four points from play.

Crusheen          3-13 
Clarecastle         0-13

A hat trick of goals from full forward Patrick O’Grady helped Crusheen to victory over Clarecastle at Gurteen on Sunday.
At the end of a well contested first half, Crusheen led by a point, 1-7 to 0-9. Five minutes into the second half O’Grady struck for his second goal and around this time, the magpies were reduced to 14 men when Paddy Donnellan was red carded.
Dara O’Doherty scored a brace of points on his introduction and at the turn of the final quarter, O’Grady completed his hat trick to put his team in a strong position.
