In the Premier Shield (Junior A) semi-final on Sunday, Lough Derg were 5-3 winners over Sallypark FCA.
Damien McCarthy opened the scoring in the very first minute after brilliant play from Jason Comley had created the opening. The Lakers’ early pressure created chance after chance but these weren’t converted. Level at the interval at 1-1, LDFC immediately regained the lead from the tip-off with skilful one-touch football leading to another Damien McCarthy goal.
Sallypark then levelled at 2-2. LDFC’s Jason Comley then split the Sallypark defence part to cross for Damien McCarthy to finish for his hat-trick. Comley himself then scored to leave the Ballina-Killaloe side in a commanding 4-2 lead.
In the second half, the home keeper put on a brilliant display to keep the now rampant LDFC at bay. Jamie Stuart’s goal made it 5-2 before the home side grabbed a consolation penalty goal near the end. Lough Derg As now proceed to the NT&DL Premier Shield and will have a home game on this Sunday at McHale’s pitch at Clarisford.
