Lough Derg kick off new season

THE first game of the 2012/13 season for a Lough Derg FC (Ballina/Killaloe) team was played on Wednesday last.

In a North Tipperary and District League Premier Shield game Lough Derg’s men’s junior A team played at home in Clarisford, Killaloe against BT Harps and came out on the wrong end of a 1-4 home loss.

The home team went 0-1 down after five minutes before Tomas Grace equalised on 10 minutes from the penalty spot.

BT Harps played very solidly and they caused a lot of problems for Lough Derg when delivering long ball over the defence.

A number of players weren’t available for selection but they are set for return shortly.

Lough Derg’s men’s Junior B team were scheduled to play their season opener in a North Tipperary and District League Division 3 Shield game on Sunday but the game scheduled for a 2pm kick-off away to Holycross FC was postponed.

This is the first season in the club’s 10-year playing history since LDFC’s foundation in January 2002 that a junior men’s team had taken the field under the Lough Derg FC banner.

In underage, two Lough Derg FC players were in the North Tipperary team for the Umbro Galway Cup.
U-13 player Jack Lynch was part of the North Tipperary boys’ squad, that finished in sixth place overall from 16 teams that took part in the 1999 Elite boys’ section.

After a late call-up, U-15 player, Seamus Monaghan was part of NTSFL squad that finished as plate runners-up, in seventh place overall

For anyone who wishes to become involved in coaching in the club’s underage ranks, they are asked to contact a committee member (contact details on the club website) to discuss how they can become involved.

The ability to field teams at some age groups may be impacted by the lack of coaches. The development of playing/training community facilities at Clarisford, Killaloe continues but at this stage every year just before the start of underage U-6 to U-16 season, the need for new coaches to become involved every year is always a huge priority for the club.
