Here ye, here ye, knights and nobles from around East Clare will assemble in Martin Gleeson’s yard, Kilkishen, on Saturday for the crowning of the Lord and Lady of Kilkishen.

They have been running everything from dog nights to table quizzes, but this weekend the fundraising efforts, which were kick-started last May by the lord and lady hopefuls, will come to an end this weekend.

Having now reached the penultimate stage of the competition, the grand finale of the fundraising in aid of the Kilkishen Church Restoration project takes place from 9.30pm.

Located in the courtyard off Jack’s Place, this will be the venue for the evening’s events.

Those vying for a chance to become lord and lady include Joe O’Gorman from Cragg and Martina McNamara from Killanena Kilkishen, Kearon Fox of Dun an Oir and Mary Murphy of Main Street, Kilkishen, John Torpey of Belvoir and Olivia King of Cluain na Laoi and Emmet O’Mahony, Killanena Kilkishen and Cushla Hehir of Cluain na Laoi.

The band Gemini will be playing in the yard from 9pm to 10pm before moving indoors and all candidates are requested to assemble in Martin Gleeson’s yard at 9pm in their lord and lady finery.

The lord and lady candidates will be paraded up the street, led out by a piper and on arrival at Jack’s Yard will be greeted by fanfare.

After the bestowing ceremony the candidates and winning couple will visit a number of local establishments for meet and greet opportunities with their loyal subjects.
