The visit was part of the Ambassador’s visit to West Clare to open the inaugural Che do Bheatha festival in Kilkee to commemorate the visit of Che Guevera there in 1961.
Deputy Pat Breen, Mayor of Kilkee Elaine Haugh Hayes and Councillor Gabriel Keating accompanied the ambassador on her visit.
Ms Trujillo enjoyed a briefing on the history of the complex and received a guided tour of the 23m high lighthouse from Tom McInerney, lighthouse keeper with the Commissioners of Irish Lights. Ambassador Trujillo, who has a keen interest in lighthouses, expressed a fascination with the location.
“I have a particular interest in lighthouses and have visited them at many locations, including in my native Cuba. The Loop Head Lighthouse is located in a beautiful location on the West Clare peninsula and its construction and well-maintained interior are very impressive.
“I certainly hope to get an opportunity to visit this area again in the future, having experienced a wonderful welcome and hospitality in Kilkee and the surrounding area over the past few days,” Ambassador Trujillo said.
