Level pegging in Sixmilebridge/Éire Óg thriller

Sixmilebridge 3-3   Éire Óg 2-6
Supporters were treated to a real thriller on Wednesday evening in Sixmilebridge when the home side and Éire Óg clashed in the U-16A championship. Nothing separated them at half-time, with the score at 2-2 each and the sides remained deadlocked at the full-time whistle
Éire Óg took the lead in the fifth minute with a well-taken goal from Elana Bradley. Sixmilebridge quickly replied with a goal and a point from play. Orla Devitt pushed the visitors ahead once again with an unstoppable shot to the net, which she followed with a point. Sixmilebridge rallied and edged ahead with a goal and a point. Devitt brought the sides level with a pointed free just before the break.
The visitors sniffed victory when they pushed ahead with three hard-earned points, two from Gráinne Nolan and one from Elana Bradley. Their three-point lead was wiped out, however, when a Sixmilebridge shot came off the crossbar and the rebound was sent to the net. Once again, the hardworking Éire Óg defence drove the sliotar up the field to Orla Devitt, who scored a great point on the run, to give them a slender lead. Éire Óg hopes were dashed when the ’Bridge pointed a free deep in injury time to level.

Feakle 3-5   Clooney-Quin 3-0

Feakle secured their first victory in the U-16 championship against Clooney/Quin.
Feakle’s ability to take their scores in the first half was the difference between the teams. Feakle lead 2-2 to 1-0 at half-time and these five points were to prove the winning margin at the final whistle. Feakle had some good scores in the first half from Collette Purcell and Regan Conway.
Feakle defended strongly in the second half and with their forwards making good use of possession, added another goal and three points to their tally. A stronger second half performance from Clooney/Quin could not prevent Feakle from winning on this occasion.
Other results at U-16 last week were: Newmarket-on-Fergus 2-10 St Joseph’s 6-3. U-16B
Kilkishen 1-12 Ballyea 2-7; Whitegate 6-8 Wolfe Tones 4-3; Inagh/Kilnamona 2-3 Kilmaley 3-0.
