Last-gasp win for Ballyea over ’Bridge

Ballyea 1-9   Sixmilebridge 0-11

A LAST-minute goal from substitute David Coughlan gave Ballyea an exciting victory over Sixmilebridge in the Junior B Hurling Championship second round at Newmarket on Saturday.

The ’Bridge had played the better hurling in the first half, outscoring their opponents by 0-8 to 0-3.

The winners fought back well in the second period with four points from Alan Hehir, plus a point each from Rory Longe and Tadhg Lynch to reduce the deficit to two points as the final whistle approached. Coughlan’s injury-time goal gave them their second win of the campaign.

One point was also the margin when Crusheen accounted for Newmarket on a 2-9 to 1-11 scoreline at Éire Óg.

Feakle also put in a strong finish on Saturday evening to account for Broadford at Gurteen. Broadford, who were having their first outing of the campaign, were ahead going into the closing stages but Feakle hit 1-3 in the closing minutes to secure a 2-11 to 2-7 victory.

Scariff and Ruan shared the spoils on Monday evening in a tie that ended 0-16 a piece.

Inagh-Kilnamona were comfortable 2-10 to 0-4 winners over Corofin, while Tulla had their second win of the campaign with a 3-10 to 1-9 victory over Smith O’Brien’s. Whitegate had a 5-10 to 1-14 victory over Éire Óg.

Junior C

CLARECASTLE booked a place in the semi-final of the Junior C Championship when they recorded a 2-12 to 1-6 win over Clonbony on Saturday evening at Inagh.

In another quarter-final tie, O’Callaghan’s Mills accounted for Ogonnelloe on a 3-12 to 1-10 scoreline.
The Mills and Clarecastle will clash in the semi-final, while St Joseph’s will take on either Clonlara or Sixmilebridge, who play this Thursday evening, in the other semi-final.
