Large entry for track and field series


WET and windy conditions were the order of the day for Track and Field Series at Lees Road but it didn’t deter a big crowd from attending from Galway, and Limerick as well as from the Clare clubs.

In the junior ladies’ section, Emer Hillery (Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare) had victories in the 100m, 800m, mile and shot putt. Niamh O’Brien won the 2,000m walk and discus, Michelle Timmoney Rees (Ennis Track) won all four events in the masters O-35, 100m, 800m, mile and shot putt. Aishling Power (Ennis Track), competing in the O-40s, also captured four gold medals in 100m, 800m, mile and shot putt, while Rita Kierse (St Mary’s) won the 800m and mile O-50s.

In the senior ladies’, Grace Eade (Ennis Track) recorded a treble in the 100m, 800m and shot putt.
In the junior men’s, Kevin Chesser (Ennis Track) was very impressive winning the 800m and mile with Ruan Rooker (Shannon) winning the 100m, shot putt and discus and Fergal Conlon (Tulla) taking the 2,000m walk.

There was a double victory for Michael Keane (Ennis Track) in the senior men’s 800m and mile with Eamon Cleary (Shannon) winning the shot putt and discus.

In the masters men’s O-35, victory went to Willie Devitt (Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare) in the 800m and mile with Jason Moloney (Ennis Track) taking double gold in the 100m and shot putt with the O-50s shot putt and discus going to Martin Fitzpatrick (St Mary’s).
