THE Athletics Association of Ireland juvenile B U-11, 13, 15, 17, 19, the inter-county relays for U-12s and U-14 as well as the intermediate men, ladies’ and masters cross country championships will take place in Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle, County Roscommon this Sunday at 11.30am.
Clare clubs will again be represented by St Cronan’s, Kilnaboy, St Mary’s, St John’s, Marian, Ennis Track Club, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare, Kilmihil and Shannon.
The juvenile programme will start at 11.30am and will be followed by four senior races with the masters ladies’ 4,000m, followed by the masters men 7,000m at 2.20pm, the intermediate ladies 4,000 metres at 2.50pm, and the final race of the afternoon will be intermediate men’s 10,000m at 3.10pm.
Clare will field four teams, intermediate men and ladies plus masters men and ladies with Ennis Track Club contesting the National Intermediate Inter-Club Awards and Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare contesting the National Masters Inter-club title.
In the intermediate ladies, Marie Carey (Ennis Track) will be among the leading contenders for national honours along with Deirdre Troy (Ennis Track) with Ciara Hassett running in the Clare colours and Rathfarnham AC along with Siobhán Lennon, Ita Hanrahan, Aishling Power (all Ennis Track) and Marian Burke (St Mary’s).
In the intermediate men’s 10,000m, Rory Chesser (Ennis Track), the Munster cross country champion, will have to be at his very best to take this national title. Other Clare competitors in this event include Brian McGinley, Brain Murphy, Martin Glynn, Martin Grealish, Michael Maher (all Ennis Track) and Kenneth Rodgers (St Cronan’s).
This is the first year of the O-50 team event for both county and club. Clare have a very strong team travelling which included Eugene Moynihan (Marian), a leading contender for the O-50’s title while in the masters ladies, Michelle O’Mahoney (Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare) will contest the O-45 title with Cushla Murphy Hehir (Marian) contesting the master ladies’ O-50 section.
