Lahinch campervan invasion deplored

A LOCAL councillor has called for additional gardaí to be drafted into Lahinch after “at least 20 to 25 campers and vans” were parked there over the bank holiday weekend.

Councillor Bill Slattery has said he wants more gardaí in the resort during the summer months to implement the parking bylaws and prevent illegal parking.

“On Thursday evening, a few campervans arrived outside Seaworld. We have five camper spaces in the carpark but on Friday afternoon, there were at least 20 to 25 campers and vans parked in parking bays, which were not designed for campervans. The campervans extended out over the area, in front and at the back, restricting the flow of traffic going up and down the car park,” he claimed.

Councillor Slattery added that people felt intimidated.

“I am annoyed that the bylaws that are in place were not enforced and these campervans and vans weren’t removed after 6pm as per the existing bylaws passed in July last year.

“Gardaí were always drafted into Lahinch for the summer on the beat and I’m looking for extra gardaí to be called into the area until the end of August,” he concluded.
