Knuckles rapped at Craughan Cemetery

THREE of 30 people gathered for what was believed to be a staged bare-knuckle fight at a graveyard in Cratloe ended up getting wrapped on the knuckles themselves for road-traffic offences after gardaí intervened to prevent the fight from proceeding.

Gardaí attended Craughan Cemetry, on the Cratloe to Sixmilebridge road, on Sunday following reports from locals that a large group was gathering at the local graveyard.

Gardaí attended the scene around 8pm, where they observed up to 30 people, mostly men, at the graveyard.
Three vehicles were seized because of no evidence of insurance. Three people were also arrested under the Public Order Act but no charges accrued and they were subsequently released.

Gardaí confirmed that no fighting was taking place but it is believed to have been an organised gathering and suspicions were that a bare-knuckle fight was planned.

“We believe what was being planned or organised there was a fight but there was no fight taking place and there was no evidence of a fight taking place. There was a large gathering taking place of about 30 people, mostly men, with the consequent number of vehicles,” a Garda spokesman said.
