Kilmurry U-14 girls Feile bound

Kilmurry Ibrickane ladies will represent Clare at the Féile in Laois/Offaly this weekend. The Clare Féile champions will play their host club St Jarlath’s (Laois) in their first game at 2.30pm on Friday, after which they will take part in the Féile parade. On Saturday, Kilmurry will play Westport (Mayo) and Sarsfield’s (Kildare) in their remaining group games.
The following is the Kilmurry panel: Caitlin Campbell, Nicole O’Doherty, Emma Coughlan (vice-captain), Kiah Baker, Lauren McCarthy, Ciara McDonnell, Claudia Doohan, Ciara Hickey, Jackie Johannsen, Amy Sexton, Rebecca Doohan, Sarah Moloney, Áine Cunningham, Jessica Doohan, Chloe Moloney, Julie Ann Byrnes, Aoibhe King (captain), Deirdre Lynch, Eileen Lynch and Aoibheann Comber.
The Kilmurry management team consists of Aidan Moloney, Francis Doohan, ‘Butcher’ McCarthy, Martina Moloney and Therese Doohan.
The current Féile team won the U-12 Division 1 Championship in 2010 under trainer, Diane Burke.
Most of this U-14 panel are also members of the club’s U-16 panel, who won this year’s Division 2 Championship, beating Cooraclare in the final. Kilmurry also have four of their Féile panel on the county U-14 panel. Clare are due to play Sligo in the All-Ireland U-14 Division 3 final on Saturday, June 30.
The Kilmurry county players are Chloe Moloney (joint captain), Rebecca Doohan, Aoibhe King and Áine Cunningham. In addition, Kilmurry’s U-16 player Tara Comber played with the Clare U-16 team this year. Kilmurry Ibrickane Ladies Club was founded in 1980 by Tony Power (RIP), Patrick Boyle and PJ Lynch (RIP). In 1984, Kilmurry Ibrickane won the first U-14 championship played in Clare and retained the title in 1985. The club won the intermediate championship in 1990, while their first Clare Féile win was in 1997.
Following a lapse of some years, they re-established their senior club in 2012. Now, Kilmurry have 32 ladies on the adult panel and are preparing for the league final on June 25, when they will play Burren Gaels.
The club has also set up an academy for five to 10-year-olds under the guidance of senior player Loretta Hanrahan and mentors Lorna Pender, Pauline Tubridy and Catherine Montgomery.
At present, they are fielding teams at U-12, U-14, U-16 and junior level.
Aside from the U-14 management team, others involved with various teams include Paul Hickey and Connie Sexton.
The club officers are as follows: Patrick McCarthy, chairman; Deirdre Comber, vice-chair; Martina Moloney, secretary, Mary T Lynch, assistant secretary; Therese Doohan, treasurer; Sarah Cunningham, assistant treasurer; Suzane Sexton, PRO; Mags Cunningham, child protection officer; club committee, Loretta Hanrahan, Connie Sexton, Aidan Moloney, Francis Doohan and Paul Hickey.
The Féile team and management acknowledge the business and community in the Kilmurry Ibrickane, Miltown Malbay and surrounding parishes for their help with fundraising and in supporting Kilmurry on their journey to Féile.
