Kilmaley too strong for newcomers

Kilmaley 5-11   Inagh-Kilnamona 0-10

It was a baptism of fire for newcomers, Inagh-Kilnamona on Sunday afternoon when they faced league champions Kilmaley in their first game at senior level.
Following on from the dizzy heights of last year’s success, it was back to earth with a bang as Kilmaley gave them a lesson in senior camogie. Inagh-Kilnamona had the better start, and raced into a three-point lead in the opening five minutes while holding off the Kilmaley attack. Kilmaley achieved parity in the next 10 minutes before Fiona Lafferty converted a free for Inagh-Kilnamona to put her side ahead.
Emma O’Driscoll punished Bríd McCarthy when she came off her line to clear a long, driving shot from Claire McMahon, when she flicked the sliotar past McCarthy to the net. Two more points from Inagh-Kilnamona saw that lead reduced to a point before Ailish Considine raised both white and green flags within a minute, leaving the last score of the half to Lafferty, which left her side trailing 0-7 to 2-5 at the break.
The second half saw Kilmaley move up a gear and with all six forwards getting their name on the scoreboard, they gave the newcomers a taste of what they will face in the coming months. The scoreboard doesn’t reflect fairly on Inagh-Kilnamona, as they had stages of dominance throughout the game.
However, inaccurate shooting proved costly. Inagh-Kilnamona can take some solace from the fact that for periods of the game they matched Kilmaley and while it was a baptism of fire, it was also a learning experience at the hands of one of the kingpins of Clare Camogie.
