Éire Óg 2-6   Wolfe Tones 0-3

ÉIRE Óg notched up a further two points in the Division 2 league when they travelled to Shannon to take on Wolfe Tones in Round 2. Played in bitterly cold conditions with a strong crosswind, which made scores difficult to come by, Éire Óg had the better of the opening half.

Gráinne Nolan’s pointed free after 10 minutes was the opening score of the match. Strong defending from the full-back line of Laura Brown, Claire McMahon and Sarah Redmond withstood everything that Wolfe Tones threw at them.

A further tally of 1-3 from Nolan put the visitors firmly in the driving seat at the break. Wolfe Tones attacked at the restart and were rewarded with points from Lizzy Danaher, Leanne Boyle and Rachel O’Brien. The switch of Rae Wall to full-back, Louise Kirwan to centre-back, Aoife O’Neill to midfield and Claire McMahon to centre-forward rallied the Éire Óg side.

Despite excellent performances from corner-back Aoife Nihill and wing-back Leanne McInerney, a goal from McMahon dashed Wolfe Tone’s hopes of a comeback. Gráinne Nolan added a further two points to seal the victory.
