Kilkee potholes becoming ‘pot mountains’

KILKEE Town Councillor Paddy Collins has claimed that potholes in Kilkee are becoming “pot mountains”.

He told Monday’s Kilkee Town Council meeting that because potholes newly filled with tarmacadam aren’t being rolled, they are posing a danger to road users.

“There isn’t a hopper or a roller going over it. It’s happening where a pothole is doing the complete opposite and is becoming a mountain. It’s becoming a bump on the road,” he said.

“The lads are there; one guy is driving the truck and the other is shovelling tarmacadam but there isn’t a third guy in a hopper machine or driving a roller. It’s nearly as bad as a pothole. It’s going from a pothole to a pot mountain,” Councillor Collins told the meeting.

He was speaking on his own motion, which asked that Clare County Council upgrade the West End car park before the summer season.

However, town engineer Derek Troy said the car park is not in the Clare County Council three-year Restoration Improvement Programme 2013-2016. He added that the council would try to maintain the car park subject to resources being available.
