FOR the third successive year, the Clare County Fleadh Cheoil will be held in Kilfenora where it will also mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.
As in previous years, the Fleadh Cheoil is expecting the highest standard of competitors in any County Fleadh, with some going on to win both at Munster and All-Ireland level. National winners in 2010 included Kilfenora’s own Eimear Howley All-Ireland senior banjo champion and the Inis Óg Céilí Band (15-18).
Competitions will begin on Friday, June 17 with the set-dancing contest and all other solo and group performers will start at 9pm on Saturday and Sunday June 18 and 19.
Alongside these, other musical events include céilís with the Abbey, Four Courts and Johnny Reidy Céilí Bands, an open-air céilí (Sunday) with the Kilfenora Céilí Band, a concert in Kilfenora Cathedral as part of the Riches of Clare programme and sessions featuring many of Clare’s finest musicians and singers.
The event runs from Wednesday, June 15 with members of the old Kilfenora Céilí Band at 9.30pm and continues until Monday, June 20 with music sessions in the village.
