Kerry Group jobs in Ennis safe

The jobs of the four Kerry Group employees in Ennis are safe after Glanbia Consumer Products acquired the group’s Limerick-based milk business that includes the Golden Vale and Dawn brands.

The Limerick-based business currently employs 151 people across four sites in Limerick, Ennis and Dublin but 85 of those jobs will be shed as part of the consolidation process.
A spokesperson for Glanbia told The Clare Champion that the planned redundancies will not affect those employed in Ennis.
“The announcement of the 85 job losses refers to 65 in Limerick and the remainder in Dublin. There is no change to the situation of the four employees in Ennis”.
As part of the integration of the business into Glanbia Consumer Products, the Lansdowne production facility in Limerick, as well as the depots in Clare Street, Limerick and Cookstown, Dublin will cease to operate.
A number of activities from these sites will be transferred to Glanbia’s existing operations in Kildare, Louth and Dublin. In addition, Glanbia will consolidate the sales and logistics activities for the region by opening a new depot and office in Limerick. 
“While this consolidation will create opportunities for many of the 151 employees, regrettably there will be 85 redundancies arising from the consolidation,” said Frank Tobin, chief operating officer at Glanbia Consumer Products confirmed.
“The reality is that the need for consolidation in the dairy processing sector has been well documented and these redundancies, while unfortunate, are necessary if we are to retain our competitiveness and protect the existing business. 
“This decision reflects economic reality and has been made following a detailed review in the context of the current market and trading environment. We will do everything that we can to support staff in the period ahead,” Mr Tobin outlined.
