Kennedy Cup triumph for Quin Syndicate

MALACHY’S Bar in Quin was the place to be last Saturday night when  the great win by Hurry on Black in the final of the Vetserach International Kenendy Cup in Limerick was celebrated.

Owned by members of the Malachy’s Bar syndicate and trained by Seán O’Brien and assisted by Michael Duggan, the black son of Boherduff Light-East Point, was certainly in a hurry, winning  the big final in convincing style after leading all the way. He broke well from trap four and sailed into an early lead. The rest of the field was always behind him as he completed the Markets Field circuit in a very fast 28.65, five lengths in front of Pat O’Connor’s Gold Slipalong. Three lengths back for third place was Malaby Tevez owned by Gerry Burke, Miltown Malbay.
This was the 11th career win for Hurry on Black who won a Kennedy Cup heat on his way to the final which was worth a cheque of €2,600 to the winning owners, Sean O’Brien, Malchy Hassett, Brian McCarthy, Eamon Fahy, Gay O’Gara and Donie Hassett.
Bringing the Kenendy Cup back to Clare for the first time in a long numbers of years was certainly an occasion to celebrate. And this was the case judging by the mood of the Quin syndicate members as they roared their hero on to a great win as he flashed across the line.
Niall Warren from Kilmaley also got on the winners’ frame with Clonlaheen Angel in an A1 graded 525. The black daughter of Crash-Clonlahen Snog was another who was in a hurry as she broke fast from trap one and led all the way to win by two lengths in  a good 28.92.
Rith Agus Rumbled, owned by Brendan Hehir, Miltown Malbay, competed in the final of the Vetsearch International A1 graded final over 525 yards and he finished in third place. Pat O’Connor’s Saleen Queen won the race in 28.71 when beating Humble Power by half a length with Rith Agus Rumble the same distance back for third place.
Limerick produced a few Clare winners last Thursday night.
The Shannon Boys syndicate and trainer, Stephen Murray, were delighted with their Amsterdam Kid (Trendy Leigh-Mona the Minx) winning his debut race. He was involved in an N3 525 and in a very close finish just edged out Balinore Who by a head. His clock was 29.58.
Billy Murphy from O’Brienbridge also had a winner with Hade’s Prince (Hade’s Rocket-Flora’s Countess). The fawn dog won by four lengths in 29.24.
Shannon owners Thomas and Niall O’Sullivan, also shared in the glory with their Starlight Crash (Crash-Jessie Be Strong) succeeding from trap one in an A6 graded 525. He was a winner by three lengths in 29.24.
