Keen competition for Killimer-Kilrush all-age cups

COURSING enthusiasts should see plenty of action at the Killimer-Kilrush coursing meeting at Aylevarroo next weekend with two interesting all-age events on the card.
The Pat Curtin-trained Windfarm Eiscir and Marie Field’s Kyle King will be seeking their second cups wins of the season and the extra points for their passage to Clonmel when they compete in the Gilligan McMahon all-age dog stake (16).
Castleisland cup winner, Cheryl, the Parteen-owned Ocean Tolula, beaten in the Oaks semi-final in Clonmel by Skellig Babe and Chiang Mia, who won the trial stake at Killimer-Kilrush last year and went on to win the Spirit of Mischief Stakes at Clonmel are among the big names challenging for the all-age bitch stake (16).
Bookmaker Dinny Gould makes Kyle King the 6/4 favourite to land another cup for his Patrickswell connections with Windfarm, Eiscir the second favourite at 6/4.  Recent Ballyheigue trial stake winner, Eshwary Sea, is also in the line-up and he is given a 4/1 chance.
The Cree-based bookmaker has Cheryl installed as the firm 6/4 favourite for the all-age bitch stake (16). She has earned the favourite’s tag by reason of her winning the cup at Castleisland.
A wrist problem delayed Ocean Tolula’s entry into the all-age scene and while she made a first-round exit at Clonmel-Kilsheelan last weekend, trainer Tom Fitzgerald from Parteen is looking forward to a better run in Aylevarroo where she will be well tested in the first round when going to slips with Windfarm Swift (5/1). Chiang Mia also given a 5/1 chance while regional trial stake winner, Perfume, is quoted at 6/1.
With a full Oaks trial stake( 32) and reserve dog trial stake (32), a members’ and surplus members’ stakes to be decided, Killimer-Kilrush, promises to be exciting over the testing Aylevarro stretch.
Tony Reddan from Sixmilebridge will judge again but for slipper Anthony McNamara from Killimer, this will be a far more daunting occasion. Having slipped the minor stakes at this meeting last year, this will be his first full meeting in the slipper’s hut. He has a great back ground of coursing, his is a nephew of club stalwarts Anthony and Denis Clohessy and they and Killimer-Kilrush Coursing Club members wish him well on his first big assignment.
Coursing gets underway both days at 11.30am.
