Éire Óg 7-7
Ruan 3-5
A five-goal blitz from Eire Óg’s Shauna Keane ensured her team saw off the challenge of Ruan on a scoreline of 7-7 to 3-5 in the final round of the Junior Camogie championship on Friday evening at the Éire Óg grounds.
Two Claire McMahon points opened the scoring for the home side followed by the first of Keane’s goals. Alice Casey’s point put the visitors on the scoreboard, with Tasha Hynes goaling in the next minute to leave a single point between the sides. Éire Óg stretched their lead with goals from Keane and Aoife Sheehan along with a pointed 45’ from McMahon following an outstanding save from Ruan’s Niamh Lyons.
Ruan rallied and were rewarded with a Rebecca Crowe point and a pointed free from Casey. However, two goals and a point from the in-form Shauna Keane stretched her side’s lead. Ruan’s Brenda O’Donoghue had the last score of the half following an excellent run through the Éire Óg defence, which culminated in a well-executed goal, leaving the home side ahead by 5-4 to 2-3 at the break.
Ruan started the brighter in the second half and worked hard to reduce the deficit. Tasha Hynes grabbed her second goal and Casey sent over a point in the opening minutes, reducing Éire Óg’s advantage to two goals. Excitement levels rose both on and off the pitch and a titanic battle ensued. It was Éire Óg, however, that came out on top with Shauna Keane rattling the Ruan net for the fifth time and Louise Kirwan racing up the pitch to put one over the bar. Claire McMahon sealed the victory for her side with two points and a long-range shot, which she lobbed into the back of the Ruan net.
