Junior titles for Power and Fitzmaurice

The Clare Athletics Association Junior, Novice B plus Juvenile Cross Country Relays were held in heavy underfoot conditions on the lands of Patrick O’Dea, Clonlohan, Newmarket-on-Fergus last Sunday.

Photographs by Declan MonaghanThere were some top-class performances in what were very well-supported juvenile relays, with Ennis Track the star performers, finishing first in the U-8 girls’ and boys, third in the girls’ U-10, while taking gold in the boys’ U-10, U-12 and U-14.

Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare won gold in the girls’ U-12, silver in the boys’ U-10, U-12 and U-14 and bronze in the girls’ U-8 and U-14.

Kilmihil girls’ U-10 won gold medals, with St John’s winning the girls’ U-14 and Fergus AC taking silver medals in the boys’ U-8 Shannon AC, the host club, took bronze medals in the boys’ U-12 and Tulla AC took bronze medals in the boys’ U-14.

In the junior ladies’ 4,000m, for the second year in a row, Laura Power (Ennis Track) was a very impressive winner, leading all the way from start to finish, with Róisín Considine (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare) and Siobhán Nestor (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare) taking the silver and bronze medals ahead of Fiona Considine (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare) and Alva Morrissey (Ennis Track).

Karl Fitzmaurice (Shannon) went out hard from the start in the junior and novice B 6,000m and after the first of the three laps he started to open up a fine lead. Over the next two laps, the Shannon man was in total control and he captured both titles in fine style, with Stephan Rooney (Ennis Track) taking the silver medal in the junior men’s race, followed by Conor Madigan (St John’s). Conor won the silver medal in the novice B, with Domhnaill Rodgers (St John’s) in third spot.

The junior men’s team title went to Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare, with Padraigh Malone seventh, Jack Devitt eighth, Paul Devit ninth and Eoin Devereaux 11th, for a total of 35 points.

The novice B men’s inter-club title went to Ennis Track, with Noah McMahon sixth, Oisín Owens eighth, David O’Connor ninth and David O’Connor 12th, for a total of 35 points. St Mary’s were second on 55 points followed by Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare on 63 points.
