A TOTAL of 1,361 Clare pupils received their junior certificate results on Wednesday, with many high achievers netting straight As in higher-level papers.
The overall trend nationally shows pupils fared better this year in the science, home economics, environment and social studies, religious education and metalwork papers at higher level.
The number of Bs and Cs achieved in business studies increased at higher level, while the number of As increased slightly in higher level subjects, such as German, history and geography.
On Wednesday, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment announced that it is in consultation with schools and through their website NCCA.ie to put forward a proposal for a new kind of junior cycle approach. They are aiming towards a cycle that would seek more emphasis on practical learning and would offer increased choices to pupils but with a reduction in the number of subjects required to be taken.
