Jump time in Ennis

WHEN the National Showjumping Championships take place at the Showgrounds in Ennis next week, it will be the first time the event will be held outside of Leinster.
Hosted by the Ennis Show Committee, the championships will commence next Tuesday and continue for three days.
According to committee member Jimmy Quinn, “Ennis was chosen because of our major investment in the grounds and facilities. It is a major undertaking and a major festival for the town.”
He went on, “There is a lot of interest in the event and there will be competitors from all parts of the country. We have nine horses coming from England, with English international rider Andrew Davies in attendance.”
During the three-day event, the National Ladies Championship, the National Speed Championship and the National Grand Prix Championship will be decided.
Despite the fact that there are two international teams away representing Ireland in Rotterdam and in Spain, there will still be a strong selection of international riders in Ennis.
The championships have a total prize fund of €50,000. Dubai Duty Free’s president is Clarecastle man George Horan and he will be in attendance on the final day, Thursday, to present the prizes. The chief executive of Dubai Duty Free is former Ennis resident, Colm McLoughlin.
Thursday will also be ladies day and there will be a prize for the best dressed lady.
On Wednesday, Clare Hunt will host a barbeque at the Showgrounds.
