Irish Chamber Orchestra coming to Kilkee

The Irish Chamber Orchestra will be in St Senan’s Church, Kilkee next weekend where it will deliver a programme of popular favourites featuring music both old and new.

The concert commences at 8pm in St Senan’s Church and will be led by violinist Katherine Hunka.
Among the music to be performed as part of this event is Elgar’s Introduction and Allegro for Strings, Op. 47, which was composed in 1905 for the then newly formed London Symphony Orchestra. Written as a showcase for the players’ virtuosity this piece quickly became a masterpiece.
Pachelbel’s Canon is another extraordinarily popular piece of music, commonly heard in commercials, films, classical music radio playlists and compilation albums.
Written in 1680, it disappeared until the last century only to be re-discovered in 1920 when it was published to great popularity.
Another piece to be performed is the Souvenir de Florence, a turbulently passionate work inspired by Tchaikovsky’s love of the Italian city. Suffused with the golden glow of warm nostalgia the piece offers some of his most good-natured music.
The ICO will also perform Wilson’s In fretta, in vento, which was inspired by ideas of loss and remembrance, particularly in relation to the 9/11 attacks.
