Inagh pupils show their technical prowess

A NORTH Clare primary school has shown its technical ability this week as it was shortlisted for a prestigious eircom Junior Spider Award.

The awards are open to both primary and post primary level pupils. At primary level, there are three categories – Best School Website, Best School Blog and Best Project.
St Flannan’s National School in Inagh is shortlisted in the Best School Website section, where it is up against Carlow Educate Together and St Paul’s Senior National School in Drogheda.
The awards, which were established last year, recognise and reward pupils for the successful and innovative ways in which they use the internet in their daily lives.
They are a parallel programme to the Golden Spider Awards, which have been running since 1996 and honour individuals and organisations for their outstanding achievements online.
At post primary level, the categories are split between junior and senior. The categories under both age groups include Best Concept and Best Web Design. There is also a Grand Prix Award which goes to the overall winner at each age level in the primary and post primary category.
Commenting on the awards, Carolan Lennon, chief commercial officer, eircom and chairperson of this year’s judging panel said, “We’ve had a great response this year to the Junior Spider Awards. It’s super to see such strong creativity and innovation in schools across Ireland. It was incredibly difficult to pull a shortlist together such was the high standard this year.”

The children will learn whether or not they have won at the awards ceremony on Friday, December 17 at the Helix, DCU.
