Inagh-Kilnamona well in control

Éire Óg 1-2

Éire Óg suffered a heavy defeat when they hosted a strong Inagh-Kilnamona side on Wednesday evening in the U-16 championship. The visitors had 2-2 on the scoreboard before Gráinne Nolan pointed a free for the home side. Two more goals followed for Inagh-Kilnamona before Nolan pointed another free and Aoife O’Neill put a cracking goal into the Inagh-Kilnamona net. The visitors finished out the first half with two more goals and a point to give them a 6-3 to 1-2 lead at the break.

Having left themselves with a mountain to climb, Éire Óg battled on in the second half but, despite holding their opponents well, they failed to score. Inagh Kilnamona, on the other hand, notched up another 3-3 to ensure a resounding victory.

Sixmilebridge 4-8
Clooney-Quin 1-0

Sixmilebridge had a convincing win over Clooney-Quin. Slaine Carey opened Sixmilebridge’s scoring with a point from play in the opening minutes and followed up with a pointed free. Niamh McInerney got the ‘Bridge’s first goal of the game when a Sarah Moloney effort was saved by the Clooney-Quin goalie.
Aoife Roche followed this up with a pointed free from play. Just before half-time Niamh McInerney got her second goal of the day, leaving the ‘Bridge 2-3 to 0-0 up at half-time. Clooney-Quin opened the second half with a number of attempts at goal. However, none of them were converted and it was Karen Gallagher who got Sixmilebridge’s first score of the half. Keelin Lyons followed this up with a pointed free. It was then that Sixmilebridge’s midfielder Fiona Murphy got her first goal of the day, which Aoife Roche followed up with a point. Slaine Carey then added another to increase the winning margin.

Kilmaley 1-10
Corofin 1-4

Kilmaley travelled to Corofin for this U-16B Championship on Wednesday evening last. This was a very tight game, with both sides evenly matched. Kilmaley were ahead at the break, 1-5 to 1-1. Playing against the breeze, the Kilmaley backline did well under pressure. Some great scores were taken by Lauren McGuane and Ashling Cahill in particular.
Other results in this section were: Kilkishen 2-10 Wolfe Tones 2-4; Broadford 5-5 Ballyea 1-5.

Truagh-Clonlara 5-8
Scariff-Ogonnelloe 1-3

These teams were evenly matched for most of the first half but an opportunist goal from Truagh’s Áine O’Loughlin gave her side the lead. 
All scores in the first half came from play. In the second half, O’Loughlin scored a hat-trick of goals to put the game beyond Scariff-Ogonnelloe’s reach. O’Loughlin finished with a personal tally of 4-0 and other Truagh scorers were Michelle Powell (0-6) and Róisín Begley (1-2).

Clarecastle 3-9
Ruan 2-6

Clarecastle got off to a strong start with an early goal, followed by two points, one from a free. Ruan’s opening score was a point from Eimear Neilan. Just before half-time Clarecastle goaled again to leave half-time score at 2-4 to 0-2 in favour of Ruan.
Ruan came out stronger in the second half, with a goal from Eimear Neilan quickly followed by a converted Lauren O’Donoghue free. Clarecastle came back strong again to score three more points.
Ruan’s Lauren O’Donoghue scored a point followed by a goal. Clarecastle responded with their third goal before Ruan’s Louise McDonnell made a strong run to finish with a great point.
Clarecastle had another two points in the final few minutes, leaving the final score of the game to Ruan’s Eimear Neilan but it wasn’t enough to prevent Clarecastle from claiming the points.
