Inagh-Kilnamona make more history

Inagh- Kilnamona    2-14

Doora-Barefield     0-8

Since Inagh-Kilnamona joined forces for underage hurling over a decade ago, they had, prior to this week, won every title on offer in Clare, with the exception of the U-14A crown.

They put that record straight in Cusack Park on Wednesday evening when the overcame Doora-Barefield to win their first ever U-14A title.
Earlier in the season this team had captured the Clare Feile na nGael title for the first time and next week they head to Limerick to compete in the National festival. They will be based in Monaleen in Limerick City and will play their first game on Friday evening.
They were crowned U-14A champions last evening because they were the better balanced side but the final scoreline is flattering in their favour as Doora-Barefield were much closer than that score suggests.
With 11 minutes to play just a point separated the sides but the winners put in a storming finish to claim the crown.
Cillian Roughan was switched from midfield to full-forward for the closing period and he scored both of his side’s goals. The first came with 10 minutes to play and proved to be a decisive score. He scored the game’s second goal in injury time to seal victory.
The winners settled quicker and raced into a three-point lead, all scores coming from David Mescall. As the half wore on Doora-Barefield came more into the game and in the closing 10 minutes of the opening period, they had the better of the chances. At half-time just three points separated the teams with the score at 0-8 to 0-5 in favour of the new champions.
Doora-Barefield dominated the third quarter but despite having most of the play they were unable to get through for the goal which they needed.
They had the margin down to a point within 10 minutes of the resumption and this was still the position as the game went into the final quarter.
Outstanding for the winners on the day were Eamonn Foudy, Keith White, Aidan McCarthy, David Mescall and team captain Cian McInerney who received the trophy from Bord na nÓg chairman Martin Reynolds after the final whistle.
Luke Carmody, Dylan Mulligan, Cathal Ruane, Niall O’Regan and Scott Currid did well for Doora-Barefield.
