Impressive medal haul for local athletes


The Munster Juvenile B Track and Field Championships for U-9 to U-16 was held in very warm conditions at the Ríocht AC track in Castleisland, where Clare athletes captured 15 gold, 15 silver and nine bronze medals, with outstanding individual performances recorded.

In the boys’ U-9, Cian Neylon (Marian) won the long jump and finished second in the 300m.
At U-10 level, there was gold for Cian O’Boyle (Marian) in the 60m. He had to produce a big sprint finish to take the 500m on the line.

Another Marian athlete, Ruth Neylon, won gold in the girls’ U-11 long jump, while in the girls’ U-12, Niamh Conlon (Kilmihil) had a very good win in the 80m.
Laura Greene (St John’s) won gold in the girls’ U-13 high jump with a leap of 1.41m and Megan White (St Cronan’s) won the 80m in 10.93. In the boys’ U-13, there was double gold for Darragh Miniter (St Mary’s) in the shot putt and high jump.

In the girls’ U-15 long jump, Katie Taylor (St Cronan’s) won gold with a leap of 4.59m and she also took a silver medal in the high jump, with Tara ­Bradley (St John’s) winning the high jump with a leap of 1.38m. In the boys’ U-15 shot putt, gold went to Joseph Miniter (St Mary’s) and he also captured gold in the long jump.
