Huge cast for Glór na Nollaig

EAST Clare music lovers will be treated to a feast of Christmas song and music at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Scariff as up to 100 performers are due to participate in the second annual Glór na Nollaig concert.
The event takes place this year over Saturday and Sunday, December 17 and 18, beginning at 8pm sharp.
Following its success last year, the concert will include a wider variety of music, whereby East Clare Community Choir will be joined by Scariff Community College Choir and a choir comprising members of fifth and sixth classes of the region’s 30 primary schools.
Scariff Community College music teacher John O’Brien will conduct the choirs, who will come together for a grand finale of songs.
Each choir will perform about eight songs at the concert, while, seasonal readings and reflections delivered by pupils of the community college will be interspersed between the choral pieces.
“Everyone involved is putting a lot of hard work into this but the feeling of accomplishment when we master a song is great. It is very enjoyable at this stage and we hope that aspect comes across on the performance nights,” Mr John O’Brien said.
“The church is a beautiful setting for a choral concert, with the added element of this event being candlelit. It really will be quite atmospheric and festive. It’s an occasion to take some time out and reflect and relax in the lead-up to Christmas and listen to some beautiful choral singing and music performed by people of the locality. Really, it is a celebration of community and Christmas and what can be done when communities come together. We hope the event will again be very special,” he concluded.
Tickets for the event are available from Rodgers’ Centra Store, Tracey’s Service Station in Scariff and also at the door on the night.
