Hopper’s Way raises €7,300

ORGANISERS of the inaugural Hopper’s Way fundraiser have reported they raised €7,300 last Sunday in aid of Pieta House.

The Carrigaholt to Kilbaha event was held in memory of the late Emmet ‘Hopper’ Ryan, who died on July 1 last year.

“We had 381 people registered but we know a lot more than that showed up and drove it. Unfortunately, the weather did not allow the boats to get going but curraghs and kayaks launched in Kilbaha bay for the day, along with a few fishing boats,” Sophie Ryan, Hopper’s wife, said.

“The total to date is €7,300 but there is still money pledged so we are hoping to increase that figure. We are overwhelmed by the response and generosity of people.

“There was a very special feel about the day and I know it helped the kids through the time of year that was in it. We are already planning for next year,” Sophie Ryan added.
