Honours for Clare people of the year

Clare Person of the Year, Ann Norton and the Clare International person of the year, Doonbeg man PJ Harvey, will be honoured by the Clare Association in Dublin in a couple of weeks.

The awards will be formally presented at the association’s annual dinner dance in the Falls Hotel, Ennistymon on Saturday, May 18.

The function is being held outside of Dublin for the first time in the history of the association as their contribution to this year’s Gathering.

The highlights of the night will be the presentations of the Clare Person of the year award to Ann Norton of the Clare Crusaders and the International Person of the Year award to Doonbeg native PJ Harvey, New York.

Ms Norton has been selected for her work with the Clare Crusaders. A founder of the group children’s charity, she manages their clinic in Barefield on a voluntary basis

The international  award is being presented to PJ Harvey (pictured) from Bealaha Doonbeg in recognition of his long, outstanding contribution to life in his native Clare.

President of the Clare association in New York in 1975 and 1976, he helped many of Clare people find employment through the carpenters union over many years. Over the last 20 years, PJ has helped raise a lot of funds for children with special needs in  St Clare’s school in Ennis and also in New York.
