Helicopter and lifeboat help man in distress

The Shannon Coastguard helicopter and the Kilrush RNLI lifeboat came to the assistance of a man who got into difficulty while boating in the River Shannon at the weekend.

Both responded after the alarm was raised by a member of the public, who reported seeing a man get into difficulty when the outboard engine on his boat broke down while out on the river.
Kilrush Lifeboat arrived at the scene about 55 minutes after launching and observed the Shannon Coastguard Helicopter R115 hover over the man to ensure his safety. At this stage, the man was rowing his way back up towards the Bunratty bridge.
The Kilrush crew stood by and watched in the event that the man needed medical assistance. After approximately 30 minutes, the man was tied up safely alongside an embankment and was said to be fine.
